As a courtesy to your buddy please commit to attend all three sessions. This program helps Big Buddies practice fluency and read with prosody. The Little Buddies will participate in reading aloud with their Big Buddy followed by an activity related to the book. Little Buddies benefit from hearing properly phrased, fluent reading, building visual imagery and comprehension. Registration (required) opens May 28.

Be the Groove (at Hinsdale Community House)

Be the Groove is a rhythmic performance ensemble that believes rhythm is not just a beat—rhythm is a mode of expression. This Chicago-based group fuses a variety of movement, percussion, and rhythmic techniques to create a unique style of its own. This event will be held at The Community House and is sponsored by Hinsdale Public Library, Clarendon Hills Public Library, and Thomas Ford Memorial Library. Bugs, Beetles and Bookworms

The Science Alliance presents this fast-paced insect safari that makes learning about entomology fun! Kids will investigate the life stories of monarch butterflies, dragonflies, bees, spiders and more, with an emphasis on how important bugs are to the Earth and to our lives. Kids will learn the body parts of insects as they label a gigantic 8-foot-long ant and praying mantis, discovering how bugs’ bodies are similar but different than their own. Volunteers will look through crazy goggles to see the world through a bug’s compound eye. Kids get to see preserved and live insects close up! Scientist Bill Bosworth will involve many hands-on volunteers to ensure your kids will have a blast learning about wings and stings and crawly things. Please register all children and adults who plan to attend.
