Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 9:00 PM
Description:
Outside of Warsaw, Chicago has the world’s largest Polish population,
but as assimilation and integration extends to third and fourth
generations, much of that culture has been lost, mingled with others,or persists in the staunchest ways. Learn about the challenges of Polish immigration from the early 1800’s to the present, discover the various centers of Polish and Polish-American culture and some of the traditions of Polish culture. A multimedia presentation by former teacher and author Donna Urbikas who emigrated to Chicago as a child and grew up in the Polish community of the 1950’s and 1960’s, as highlighted in her recent memoir, My Sister’s Mother: A Memoir of War, Exile, and Stalin’s Siberia.
