Cantor Pavel Roytman, is a native of Nikolaev, Ukraine, In 1994, he immigrated to the United States where he obtained degrees in music from DePaul and Northwestern universities. During that time he also studied chazzanut. In 2006, he was certified as a cantor through Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion. He currently serves as cantor for Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah in Wilmette, Illinois. He has performed in the Greater Chicago Jewish Folk Arts Festival, the Illinois State Fair, the International Klezmer Gala in Stockholm, and the International Jewish Music Festival in Tsfat, Israel.

Youth Film Festival

This year a $300 grand prize will be awarded. The film festival is co-sponsored by the Northbrook Youth Commission, the Northbrook Arts Commission and the Northbrook Public Library.

Sparked by his son's struggle with foodborne illness, Spitz created Food Patriots, a humorous documentary on nutrition and the people who are leading the good food revolution. Last year Spitz sparked discussion of raising backyard chickens, a topic which is featured in the film.
