What comes to mind for the decade of the 1940s? World War II. Rationing. Scrap drives. Victory Gardens. Pearl Harbor. The Forties were the heyday for movies. In fact, the Office of War declared movies an essential industry for morale and propaganda. It was also the Hollywood Studio System at its most confident. Through film clips and narration, Richard Klein will take a panoramic, “Technicolor,” and black and white look at the wide range of film genres. All of which are hallmarks of a remarkable period in movie history.
